Providing Wireless Broadband Telecom and Distance Learning Services to Underserved, Rural and Remote Areas

Wireless Broadband in Remote and Rural Areas
In the late 19th century British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli said: “Upon the education of the people of this country, the fate of this country depends.”  While this statement may be sound a bit overly dramatic it is nonetheless just as true today as it was then.  An educated populace is a country’s greatest resource.

The Challenge of “Educating Everyone”
We live in an age where one of the greatest educational tools in the history of mankind is available- the Internet.  The power of the Internet as a tool of learning, through its ability to provide access to a wealth of information, is limitless.  Unfortunately, the Internet has also created another (and not so positive) dynamic- the polarization of “information have and have-nots” (i.e.: those who have access to the benefits of the Internet and those who do not).

This situation has not gone unnoticed.  In a number of countries significant finances and resources are being expended to expand Internet coverage so that everyone has access to this learning tool.  However, in many nations providing broadband access to remote and rural areas is not as easily accomplished.  This is why Educational Telecommunications Services (ETS)* is dedicated to teaming with the governmental and business leaders of these nations to provide cost effective broadband Internet access to schools and medical clinics in the most remote areas of their countries.

The ETS Educational Initiative
ETS is dedicated to the proposition that the benefits of a good education should be available to all.  Too often however, this has not been the case.  This is particularly true for students living in remote, rural or underserved areas, who traditionally have been provided with educational opportunities a tier or two below those available to their metropolitan or suburban counterparts.  ETS pioneered distance learning to locations throughout the United States by providing a full range of curriculum-based programs to students by satellite.  From this past experience, ETS has developed a cost effective, quickly deployed, wireless broadband Internet system that can support educational services in the remotest of areas.  The rural Internet service is based on a unique multi-tier wireless broadband concept that has been developed by ETS.

The ETS Multi-tier Wireless Broadband Network
ETS’ mission is to design, deploy and operate wireless broadband networks in emerging markets of the world.  By employing a unique wireless broadband design and a cost effective migration strategy, coupled with innovative and highly desirable content-based services, ETS provides telecommunications services on a scale never before available to many locations in the world.  ETS employs a proprietary multi-tier broadband wireless concept that integrates a number of wireless broadband equipment and support systems into a seamless network.  This network is unique in that it not only can serve the largest metropolitan centers, but also provides cost-effective high speed connectivity to the most remote rural areas as well.
